Eagles Prepare For Home Opener

Tallahassee, Fla. (November 6, 2014) – The Tallahassee Community College men's and women's basketball teams open up their home schedule with a doubleheader against St. Petersburg College at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome Saturday November 8. The women play at 4 pm and the men will finish the evening with tipoff set for 6 pm.

The Eagle women (1-0) are looking to build off of their 80-42 victory over Southern Union State Community College on November 1.  In the recent FCSAA Coaches' Poll the Eagles are ranked #4 as they welcome the Titans to town.  The Titans (0-1) enter this game ranked in the Coaches' Poll #6.

The Titans are led offensively by Amanda Mendoza who is averaging 12 points on the season on 44 percent shooting while Shaquoria Williams leads the team defensively with 11 rebounds.

Last season these two teams faced off twice with the Titans victorious in both contests.  In their first meeting St. Petersburg won 65-50 behind the shooting of Keynona Armstrong.  The second meeting of these two teams last ended with a similar result as the Titans defeated the Eagles 67-59.  An early 15-point first half lead by the Eagles was not enough to hold off the Titans.
In the final game of the night the Eagle men (3-0) will also take on St. Petersburg (2-0).  The Eagles are currently ranked #4 in the FCSAA while the Titans boast a #8 ranking.  Last season the Eagles faced the Titans twice and winning both meetings between the two teams.  In their first meeting the Eagles pulled out a 71-67 victory led by Cameron Naylor, Dirk Williams, and Elmo Stephens.  Both Williams and Stephens return this season for the Eagles.  In their second meeting last season the Titans challenged the Eagles until the final buzzer.  After cruising out to a 19-point lead the Eagles fought off a late rally by the Titans to win 69-64.
This will be the first of two meetings between these teams this season.  Their next matchup will be December 17 in St. Petersburg.
General admission to the game is $5 and all students, faculty/staff are free with a current TCC ID.
