WAYCROSS, Ga. (November 14, 2014) – FCSAA No. 1 Tallahassee Community College survived a late rally from South Georgia Technical College and defeated the Jets, 84-77, on day one action at the Applebee's Okefenokee Classic, hosted by South Georgia State College.
Tallahassee is now 5-0 on the season and will look for its sixth straight win at 4 p.m. Saturday against host South Georgia State.
The Eagles enjoyed a comfortable 82-69 lead with 4:40 left in the game but South Georgia Tech scored the next eight points to pull within five, 82-77, with 1:24 remaining. That, however, was as close as the Jets could get.
Elmo Stephen scored a game-high 27 points to lead Tallahassee. He hit 9-of-18 shots from the floor.
Cameron Smith added a double-double, 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Nobertas Giga scored nine points and pulled down 14 boards.
Smith and Giga led Tallahassee to a 46-32 advantage on the glass.
Eric Nottage dished out ten assists.
Tallahassee led by as many as 15 points (36-21) in the first half and took a 45-34 lead to the locker room.
