Eagles host Applebee’s Men’s Classic December 5-6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 5, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College will host the Applebee's Men's Basketball Classic, Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6.

Panhandle Conference rival Northwest Florida State College, Faulkner (Ala.) State Community College and TAAG (Fla.) Academy will join the Eagles in the two-day, four-team event.

The action tips off at 6 p.m. Friday when Northwest Florida State faces TAAG. Tallahassee and Faulkner State are scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.

On Saturday, Northwest Florida State and Faulkner State will play at 2 p.m. followed by Tallahassee and TAAG at 4 p.m.

Friday will mark only the second-ever meeting between Tallahassee and Faulkner State. The Eagles defeated the Sun Chiefs 81-67 on November 8, 2013, in the TCC Tip-Off Classic. And as it did last year, two of the NJCAA's all-time winningest coaches will go head-to-head when the teams hit the floor – Tallahassee's Eddie Barnes, who has 460 victories in 23-plus season as an NJCAA head coach, and Jack Robertson, with 806 in 41 years as head coach at Faulkner State.

Saturday's game will be the first-ever matchup against TAAG.

The Eagles have not played since Thanksgiving when they dropped their first game of the season to Southwest Tennessee Community College, 84-76, in the Capital Courtyard Classic. The loss also dropped Tallahassee to No. 2 in this week's FCSAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll, but a 9-1 record enabled the Eagles to crack the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll at No. 14.

Friday is also Youth Night at Eagle Basketball. In partnership with the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Affairs, all parks & recreation youth basketball players and coaches will receive free admission. Family members will be admitted free by bringing an unwrapped toy to support Tallahassee Community College's Toys 4 Tots Campaign.

Tallahassee Community College would like to thank Applebee's and the Leon County Tourist Development Council for their support of the Applebee's Men's Basketball Classic.
