Eastern Florida State comes from behind to knock off Tallahassee at Shootout

OCALA, Fla. (December 14, 2014) – NJCAA No. 24/FCSAA No. 3 Eastern Florida State College outscored No. 11/No. 2 Tallahassee Community College in the second half 47-29 and downed the Eagles 76-66 on day two action at the annual Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout. 

Tallahassee, whose two losses have come to Eastern Florida State and NJCAA No. 10 Southwest Tennessee Community College who are a combined 24-2, is now 12-2 on the season. 

Tallahassee led 37-29 at the break but couldn't hold the lead, despite shooting 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) in the second half. 

Eastern Florida State needed only six-plus minutes of the second half to tie the game, but Tallahassee answered and regained a five-point lead with just over eight minutes remaining. In a game that featured ten ties and nine lead changes, the Titans made the final surge, outscoring the Eagles by 15 over the final eight minutes. 

Tallahassee held Eastern Florida State to just 35.1 percent (26-of-74) shooting but yielded 20 offensive rebounds, which translated to a16-2 advantage in second-chance points for the victorious Titans. 

Dirk Williams led all scorers with 21 points for Tallahassee. He hit 7-of-15 shots and 5-of-8 from long distance. Elmo Stephen added 13. Jahvaughn Powell and Cameron Smith each scored 10. 

Tallahassee travels to FCSAA No. 4 St. Petersburg College on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. tip in its final game before the holiday break.
