Eagles Set To Host Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla (December 29, 2014) -- The TCC Eagles tip-off the second half of their season by hosting the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic on December 30-31 which features teams from Maryland, Mississippi and Florida.

The Eagle men are currently 12-3 and are lead by the offensive play of Dirk Williams and Elmo Stephen.  Williams is averaging 16.9 points a game over 15 games while Stephen has averaged 15.3 over that same period.

In the first game on December 30 the Eagle men will take on Garrett (Md.) College at 7:30 pm.  This will be the first meeting between these two teams.

Garrett College is an upper-tier Division II program in the NJCAA.  The Lakers are averaging 79.3 points a game this season behind the play of DeAndre Davis who is averaging 19.4 points a game over 13 games so far this season.  Three other players for the Lakers are averaging double digits scoring this season.  Davis also fuels the defense for the Lakers and is a solid rebounder pulling down 11.6 rebounds per game.

In the final game of the Classic the Eagles will face off against Hillsborough Community College.  This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season and the eighth meeting overall between them.  Tallahassee has dominated the series and holds a 5-2 lead in the series.  Their last meeting on November 21, 2014 had the Eagles cruise a 19-point victory in Tampa, Fl.

The Hawks are 7-8 on the season and are averaging 69.6 points per game behind the play of Daniel Harris.  Harris is shooting 41 percent from the field and from 3-point range on the season while averaging 13.0 points a game.  Chauncey Day leads the team in rebounds with 5.5 a game.

The women's side of the Classic will feature teams from Maryland, Georgia and Florida.  The Eagle women ended the first half of the season with a 13-3 record and are led offensively by Cat Wells.  Wells averages 12.9 points over 16 games.  Karley Barnes and Wedion Bibbins lead the team defensively on the boards pulling down 5.4 and 5.9 rebounds per game respectively.

The first game on December 30th will see the Eagles take on Georgia Perimeter College.  The Eagles lead the lead the series 11-4 and have won three of the four games in Tallahassee.  This will be the second meeting between the two teams with the Eagles claiming a 63-49 victory back on November 22.

The Jaguars enter the classic with a 5-9 record averaging 64.5 points a game.  Danielle Clark leads the Jaguars in scoring with 14.8 points a game on 31 percent shooting.  The Jaguars attack the boards on defense pulling down an average of 41.2 rebounds a game.  Taylor Boyd leads this attack averaging 5.2 boards a game.

The final game on December 31st for the Eagles in the classic will be against Garrett (Md.) College.  This game will be the first meeting between these two teams.

The Lakers are 7-5 on the season with all seven of their wins coming at home.  Led by Anamarie Skaro and Kadijah Anderson the Lakers average 77.2 points per game over their 12 games this season.  Both Skaro and Anderson score in double digits with Skaro averaging 15.8 points per game on 43 percent shooting while Anderson averages 14.7 on 50 percent.  Defensively Skaro is a force that could pose a problem for the Eagles.  Skaro leads the Lakers with 11 rebounds per game and as a team they average 46 rebounds.

The Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic will close out the non-conference schedule for the Eagles as the get ready to begin conference play on January 3, 2015 at home against Northwest Florida State College.
