Eagles fall on the road to PC foe Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 11, 2015) – The Tallahassee Community College Eagles fell to 17-10 on the season and 3-7 in Panhandle Conference play with a 73-56 loss to Pensacola State College on Wednesday night in men's basketball action.

The loss knocked Tallahassee out of postseason contention.

The Eagles struggled from the floor early in the game as the Pirates jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead to begin the game.

A big factor to the Pirates success was the play of Rozelle Nix as the Eagles could not find an answer for him.  Nix had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half alone.

Tallahassee began to find their rhythm later in the half and a 9-0 run cut the Pirates' lead to four. Pensacola State stretched its lead back to double-digits before the Eagles cut it to eight (37-29) at the half.

Out of the locker room a three-pointer by Elmo Stephen cut the Eagles' deficit to five but that was close as they got.

The rim was unkind to the Eagles, particularly in the second half, as multiple shots went in and out resulting in a 19-of-52 night from the floor.

Tallahassee also yielded 18 second-chance points and was outscored 36-18 in the paint.

Eric Nottage, who was back in the lineup after missing the last two games, led the Eagles in all statistical categories – 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Tallahassee will host Sophomore Night on Saturday when it plays Gulf Coast State College at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, retiring head coach Eddie Barnes will be recognized.

Admission to Saturday's game is free.
