TCC’s Dirk Williams signs NLI with UAB

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 9, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College men’s basketball standout Dirk Williams is headed home.

Williams, a native of Homewood, Ala., a suburb of Birmingham, signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

A 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard, Williams prepped at Williamsburg Christian Academy in Williamsburg, Va., prior to enrolling at Tallahassee in 2013.

In 52 career games with the Eagles, Williams averaged 14.7 points, shot 44.7 percent from the floor, 40.4 percent from the 3-point line and 79.0 percent from the free throw line.

As a sophomore in 2014-15, he averaged 17.2 points in 27 games and was named First-team All-Panhandle Conference.

“We are thrilled to have another local player added to our roster,” said UAB head coach Jerrod Haase. “Dirk is a dynamic scorer whose athleticism will impact the game on both ends of the floor. We expect Dirk to have an immediate impact when he arrives on campus.”

Williams’ arrival on the UAB campus will come as another former Eagle, C.J. Washington, departs. Washington, who played at Tallahassee from 2011-13, finished his collegiate career in March, leading the Blazers to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

UAB competes in Conference USA and won the league’s postseason tournament in 2015.
