Georgia Highlands rallies in second half to down TCC

NICEVILLE, Fla. (October 31, 2015) – NJCAA Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College led NJCAA No. 10 Georgia Highlands College by 11 points at the half, but the Chargers rallied in the second stanza to defeat the Eagles 83-76 on day two of the Quality Inn Classic, hosted by Northwest Florida State College.

The Eagles, who knocked off NJCAA No. 13 Southwest Tennessee Community College in Friday's season opener, 64-26, will bring a 1-1 record in Thursday's 7 p.m. home opener against Hillsborough Community College.

Behind the play of guards Rashad Lewis and Daishon Smith, Tallahassee led 48-37 at the break. Both players knocked down a pair of three-pointers en route to 12 first-half points for Lewis and 11 for Smith.

The second half, however, belonged to Georgia Highlands, who outscored Tallahassee, 46-28. Kyvon Davenport was largely responsible for the Chargers' rally, scoring 17 of his game-high 31 points after the intermission.

Lewis finished with 23 points to lead Tallahassee. Smith added 21.

Tallahassee will get another shot at Georgia Highlands on November 13 when the teams meet in Barnesville, Ga., at the Georgia/Florida Shootout, hosted by Gordon State College.

Prior to this Thursday's game, the TCC Foundation will host a tip-off tailgate party beginning at 6 p.m. outside the entry to the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.
