Johnson scores 30 as Eagles improve to 3-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 7, 2015) – Ryan Johnson scored a career-high 30 points – 20 in the first half – to lead NJCAA Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College past No. 7 St. Petersburg College, 81-50, on Saturday afternoon in men's basketball action.

The win improved Tallahassee to 3-1, with each victory coming by 30+ points. St. Petersburg dropped to 0-3.

Johnson knocked down eight of 11 shots from the floor, including five of six from long distance, and he hit nine free throws in 11 attempts. He finished one rebound shy of a double-double.

In what is quickly becoming a staple of head coach Mark White's team, the Eagles jumped on St. Petersburg early, racing out to a 17-2 lead just over seven minutes into the game.

A modest 7-0 run pulled the Titans within eight (17-9) but from there it was an 18-5 run in favor of the home team. Johnson capped the surge with five straight points to give the Eagles a 35-14 lead at the 5:01 mark.

Tallahassee led 38-22 at the intermission.

The Eagles' lead hit 30 by the midway point of the second half and eventually reached as many as 39 on Tim Dal Bon's three-pointer with 5:31 left in the game. Tallahassee hit 7-of-14 three-pointers in the second half and shot 12-of-19 for the game from long distance.

Dal Bon scored 11 points off the Eagles' bench.

David Simmons added a double-double – 13 points and 12 rebounds, helping the Eagles to a 49-37 advantage on the glass.

Tallahassee will close the current three-game homestand at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts TAAG Academy.
