Eagles have Georgia on their mind

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 12, 2015) - Tallahassee Community College's men's and women's basketball teams resume their schedules on Friday with games in the Peach State. 

A 10-game road trip for the Eagle men commences in Barnesville, Ga., for games Friday and Saturday at the Georgia/Florida Shootout hosted by Gordon State College. 

At 6 p.m. Friday, redemption will be the theme when Tallahassee plays NJCAA No. 10 Georgia Highlands College for the second time this season. 

The teams have matching 4-1 records, but the "1" in the Eagles' loss column came at the hands of the Chargers on Halloween night. Tallahassee jumped out to a 15-point, first-half lead but made only three field goals in the second half and watched the Chargers rally for an 83-76 victory. Since the loss, the Eagles have won three straight by an average of 46.3 points, including Tuesday's 132-61 win over TAAG Academy. 

Freshman guard Ryan Johnson has had the hot hand of late, averaging 29.5 in his last two games. Johnson connected on only 1-of-8 field goal attempts and scored five points in the teams' first meeting. 

Tallahassee will play host Gordon State (0-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday. 

Both games can be seen online.

Meanwhile, the destination for the Eagle women is Georgia Highlands College in Rome, Ga., for the GHC Classic. 

Tallahassee, winners of its first three games, will play NJCAA No. 17 Shelton (Ala.) State Community College at 4 p.m. Friday and host Georgia Highlands at 2 p.m. Saturday. 

Shelton State enters with a 2-0 record while Georgia Highlands is 1-3, but the Chargers have played, arguably, the nation's toughest schedule to date. Their three losses are to NJCAA No. 1 Chipola College, No. 6 Northwest Florida State College (by four) and No. 11 Walters (Tenn.) State Community College (by one), each of whom has a 4-0 record. 

Saturday will be the first of two meetings with Georgia Highlands. The teams will play December 16 in Niceville, Fla., at the Northwest Florida State College Winter Classic. 

Following the weekend action, Tallahassee will travel to Santa Fe College on Tuesday for a men's and women's doubleheader.
