Hillsborough storms back in second half to down TCC

TAMPA, Fla. (December 3, 2015) – Hillsborough Community College overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat NJCAA Region 8 No. 7 Tallahassee Community College 73-69 on Thursday evening in men's basketball action.

The Eagles have dropped three straight games to fall to 7-5.

Tallahassee controlled the game for much of the night, particularly in the opening 20 minutes. The Eagles shot 46.9 percent (15-of-32) from the floor, hit 7-of-15 three-pointers and led 47-37 at the intermission.

The second half was a different story. The Eagles managed to shoot only 26.7 percent (8-of-30) from the floor and connected on only 2-of-15 shots from beyond the arc.

Tallahassee extended its halftime lead to 54-41 before the host Hawks rallied.

A 12-0 run pulled Hillsborough within a point (54-53) then after Tallahassee regained a 60-53 advantage the Hawks answered with a 10-2 spurt, capped by Chauncey Day's go-ahead three-pointer – Hillsborough's first lead of the game.

After a series of lead changes, Hillsborough scored seven of the game's final nine points and took the lead for good on Larry Curry's bucket for a 68-67 lead.

Daishon Smith led all scorers with 29 points for the Eagles. David Simmons added a double-double – 10 points and 13 rebounds. Stavian Allen scored 10 points.

Tallahassee will try to get back on the winning track when it plays at St. Petersburg College on Saturday. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
