Polk State sends Eagle men to fifth straight loss

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (December 12, 2015) – Despite a record-tying shooting performance by sophomore guard Rashad Lewis, the Tallahassee Community College Eagles dropped their fifth straight game on Saturday, falling to Polk State College, 92-85 in overtime, on day one of the Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout.

Lewis knocked down eight three-pointers, tying Tallahassee's single game record. Tyron Triplett accomplished the feat on consecutive days in 1997 (11/7/97 vs. Bishop [Ala.] State Community College and 11/8/97 vs. Wallace Community College-Selma [Ala.] and Nigel Johnson equaled it on January 7, 2006, vs. the College of Coastal Georgia. 

He finished with 26 points on the afternoon.

The Eagles have dropped five straight games and now sit at .500 (7-7) on the season. All but one of Tallahassee's losses has come by single digits.

Saturday's battle of the Eagles was nip-and-tuck.

Polk State took a 41-38 lead to the locker room at the half, and the Eagles made up the small deficit during the second stanza to send the game to overtime knotted at 76-all.

Lewis and three others players scored in double-figures for Tallahassee.

Ryan Johnson hit four three-pointers of his own and finished with 22 points.

David Simmons added 15 points and Daishon Smith recorded a double-double, 11 points and 10 assists.

Tallahassee will wrap up a ten-game road trip with a second game in the Shootout at 7 p.m. Sunday vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville.
