Home for the holidays: Eagles host Gordon State to open homestand

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 14, 2015) – After playing its last ten games away from home, Tallahassee Community College's men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Bill Hebrock Eagledome on Tuesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. tip against Gordon (Ga.) State College.

The game can be seen live on TCCeagles.com.

The Eagles last played at home November 10, winning 132-61 over TAAG Academy, the last of three consecutive home games. Tallahassee walked off the floor that evening with a 4-1 record – and each win had come by at least 31 points.

Since then, Tallahassee has logged more than 2,000 miles, culminating with Sunday evening's 107-67 win in Gainesville, Fla., over Florida State College at Jacksonville to close the road trip at, somewhat of a misleading, 4-6.

Five of the six losses came by single digits, and the largest margin of defeat was ten points. Tallahassee also had second-half leads against NJCAA No. 4 Georgia Highlands College and No. 2 Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College, the latter loss coming in the final six seconds. And all but one game came without the services of starting point guard Jahvaughn Powell.

Powell, who suffered a fractured hand in the days leading up to the season opener, returned for limited minutes in a November 17 win at Santa Fe College. But a week later, he fractured his other hand prior to the Eagles' trip to Pensacola State College for a trio of games during the Thanksgiving holiday and hasn't played since.

He's projected to return December 28 when the Eagles host the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.

With the last month now in the rearview mirror, Tallahassee can look forward to five straight games at home beginning with Tuesday's return trip from the Highlanders. The Eagles claimed a 70-64 win at Gordon State on November 14.

Following a 12-day layoff for the Christmas holiday, Tallahassee will host games December 28 and 29 then open the Panhandle Conference schedule at home against Pensacola State on January 2.

Eagle women look to extend streak

Tallahassee's women's basketball team is riding a seven-game winning streak heading into games Tuesday and Wednesday at Northwest Florida State College's Winter Classic.

Tallahassee will play Bishop (Ala.) State Community College at 4 p.m. eastern Tuesday and Georgia Highlands at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Georgia Highlands knocked off the Eagles, 73-65, in its own GHC Classic on November 14.

The Eagles are 10-3 overall and ranked No. 25 in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll and No. 5 in the NJCAA Region 8 Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll.
