Eagles blow out Gordon State to remain unbeaten at home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 15, 2015) – What did Daishon Smith do for an encore following Sunday's triple-double against Florida State College at Jacksonville? 

Just score 32 points. In the first 27 minutes of Tuesday's game against Gordon (Ga.) State College.

Behind Smith's career-high scoring effort, Tallahassee Community College defeated Gordon State, 111-58, at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

Tallahassee is now 9-7 heading into a 12-day layoff for the Christmas holiday.

Smith and fellow sharp-shooter Rashad Lewis combined to hit 12-for-19 three-pointers, including 9-for-10 in the first half as the Eagles dialed up shot after shot from long distance to open up a once-competitive ball game.

After a five-game stretch that saw Lewis hit a total of four three-pointers (4-for-26), he is now 20-for-34 over his last three games. He hit his last five attempts in the first half on Tuesday, all during a 50-13 explosion over the final 13 minutes that turned a three-point game into a 40-point halftime lead.

The three-point onslaught continued in the second half and when Smith connected from the corner at the 13:14 mark, the Eagles led by 50 (79-29).

As it turned out, that shot proved to be the last of Smith's 32 points and preserved Bootsy Thornton's single-game scoring record of 41 points.

Smith, who played just over 30 minutes, turned in another complete performance, adding six rebounds and seven assists.

Lewis finished with 22 points and seven assists.

Stavian Allen scored 14 points and Darius Alexander, 10, both in a reserve role.

Austin Grimes added 12.

The Eagles are now 4-0 at home, having outscored their opponents, on average 105-57 in those games.
