#TCCBasketball: Eagle men fall in OT at Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (February 10, 2016) – Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee Community College fell to No. 9 Gulf Coast State College, 100-97 in overtime, on Wednesday evening in men's basketball action.

The loss prevented Tallahassee (18-10, 7-3 Panhandle Conference) from sewing up a postseason berth, but the Eagles will leave Panama City with their half-game lead in the PC standings intact, thanks to Pensacola State College's win over Northwest Florida State College (6-3).

Gulf Coast State (5-5) avoided elimination from postseason contention with the victory.

Tallahassee led 44-33 at the half and scored the first five points out of the locker room. Jahvaughn Powell's basket gave the Eagles a 49-33 lead less than a minute into the second half.

The Eagles eventually led by 17 (54-37) and still led by double-digits, 77-66, at the 6:19 mark following a basket from Stavian Allen. Gulf Coast State, however, came storming back and took an 84-83 lead on Cobe Goosby's basket with 1:38 left in regulation.

Daishon Smith answered with a three-pointer to put the Eagles in front by two and, after Gulf Coast State tied the game, had two shots in the final seconds of regulation that would have won it. Neither dropped, however, and the game went to overtime where the Commodores outscored Tallahassee, 14-11.

Smith scored 20 points, one of four players in double-figures for Tallahassee.

David Simmons led the Eagles with 22 points. Powell scored 18 and Allen, 11.

Tallahassee still needs just one win to clinch a postseason berth and will have its next opportunity at home on Saturday against arch-rival Chipola College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
