#TCCBasketball: Eagles roll in home opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 18, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's men's basketball team rolled past St. Petersburg College, 95-60, in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome. 

The NJCAA No. 13/Region 8 No. 3 Eagles are 5-0 for the second time in Mark White's three seasons as head coach and fourth time in five seasons overall. 

Tallahassee never trailed on Saturday. In fact, most of the suspense evaporated after the Eagles scored the game's first eight points. St. Petersburg answered with a 10-4 run to pull within a basket (12-10) and later trailed 17-15 at the 11:09 mark, but that was the final time the Titans would be within one possession of the lead. 

Chris Agbo threw down a two-handed slam to ignite an 18-5 run, spurred on by four three-pointers, to give Tallahassee a 35-20 lead with 6:12 left in the half. After both teams exchanged a couple of free throws, the three-point barrage continued, as the Eagles closed the half with an 18-6 run and led 55-28 at the break. 

St. Petersburg got as close as 21 points (68-47) near the midway point of the second half but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Tallahassee scored 18 unanswered points and led 86-47 with 6:09 remaining, its largest lead of the game. 

Javien Williams scored 10 points in a three-minute span of the second half and finished with 15 overall. He and JaQuan Morris, who also scored 15 points off the bench, led six players in double-figures for the Eagles. 

Jacob Winston, Quentin Jackson and Corey Douglas had 14 points each and Leon Freeman-Daniels added 11. 

Balance was a theme throughout the box score on Saturday. Nine different players logged at least 17 minutes while no one surpassed the 27-minute mark. Tallahassee was equally efficient on both ends of the court. 

The Eagles knocked down 34-of-60 shots overall (56.7 percent) while limiting St. Petersburg to 30.6 percent shooting (19-of-62). 

Tallahassee also owned the glass, outrebounding the Titans 49-27, thanks in part to Agbo, who pulled down a team-high 11. 

The Eagles will return to play on Monday when they travel to Hillsborough Community College for a 7 p.m. tip.
