This is the first installment in TCC Athletics' 2019 Stepping Stones series.

TALLAHASSEE FLA. (July 15, 2019)— Tallahassee Community College men's basketball standout Richard Washington has signed a national letter of intent with San Jose State University.

Washington, who is from Newport News, Va., joined the Eagles as a transfer from Wake Forest University in 2018. He played his freshman season with the Demon Deacons in 2016-17 but redshirted in 2017-18 due to an injury.

The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 16.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists during his sophomore season at Tallahassee. In the Eagles' win over Andrew (Ga.) College on November 28, he posted school-records of 45 points and 10 three-pointers.

Washington was named to the All-Panhandle Conference First-team and received academic honors from both the FCSAA and the Panhandle Conference in 2019.

Located in San Jose, Calif., the NCAA Division I Spartans compete in the Mountain West Conference.
