#TCCXCTF: Eagles debut on the track

TALLAHASSEE, (February 27, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's newest sport, track and field, debuted on Wednesday with the first installment of the three-part Maclay Open Series. 

The college/open college race was part of the Maclay Mini Meet. The final two races at Maclay will take place March 13 and March 27. 

Nine runners participated on Wednesday – five females and four males – and ran a combination of the 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m. With it being the program's first-ever meet, the runners knew it was an opportunity to establish school records in each event. 

Jovanny Valdez got things started in the men's 100m, posting a time of 11.41. Three females ran the 100m, led by Njaree Collins' 13.82. Kenesha Huggins was next at 14.89 followed by Asia Charlton at 15.87. 

Mekhi Reynolds took first place in both the 200m and 400m, running a 22.76 and 53.40, respectively. Valdez (22.86) and Khalil Randell (25.07) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200m while Gannon Hundley (54.28) and Randell (57.05) finished second and third, respectively in the 400m. 

Randell and Hundley finished 1-2 in the 1500m run. Randell ran a 4:24.81 while Hundley finished in 4:35.69. 

In the women's 200m, Collins (28.37), Huggins (30.54) and Charlton (32.70) finished 2-4. 

Mia Wiederkehr won the 400m in a time of 1:03.77 while Genevieve Printiss crossed in third with a time of 1:07.60. 

Printiss was the lone participant in the women's 1500m, finishing in 5:07.40. 

The March 13 race at Maclay will serve as the final tune-up to the Eagles' first major event, the FAMU Relays, scheduled for March 15 and 16.
