Eagles earn split at ABAC

TIFTON, Ga. (February 15, 2014) – After dropping a 6-5 decision in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College, Tallahassee Community College with a convincing 8-0 victory in game two to earn a split against the Fillies.  

In the opener, Tallahassee rallied after trailing 6-1 entering the top of the sixth.  

Te Reo Powhiri Matautia led off the inning with a triple and scored on Ashley Heath-Smith's sac-fly to cut the Eagles' deficit to 6-2. 

Tallahassee got even closer in its final at-bat, scoring three times. A two-run single by Heath-Smith and an RBI-single from Alexis Huss accounted for the Eagles' scoring. 

Matautia went 2-for-3 and scored twice while Heath-Smith was 1-for-4 and drove in three runs. Brenda Santana (2-for-4), Huss (2-for-4) and Brianna Murillo (2-for-2) also had multi-hit games. 

Mariah Rivera took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee, despite tossing a complete game. 

The momentum gained at the end of the opener carried over into game two for the Eagles, who rode Ashley Dobson's one-hitter, to an 8-0 victory.  

Dobson lost her bid for a no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, and she faced only one batter over the minimum.

Dobson got all the run support she needed in the second inning when Huss drilled a solo homer. The Eagles put the game away with a five-run third.

Tallahassee sent 11 batters to the plate in the third and collected five of its ten hits but also took advantage of two walks, a hit batsman and an ABAC error.

Huss, who also doubled, was 2-for-2 and scored twice. Danielle Patterson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Taesha DuBoise was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Tallahassee (4-3) will hit the road again on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Santa Fe College.
