CUTHBERT, Ga. (February 22, 2014) - Tallahassee Community College swept its third straight doubleheader on Saturday, blowing past Andrew (Ga.) College, 10-1 and 21-6, to complete a home-and-home sweep of the Tigers.
Tallahassee pitched shutouts of 16-0 and 12-0 when the teams met in Tallahassee on Wednesday.
In the opener, the Eagles opened up a close game late to score the 10-1, five-inning victory. Tallahassee held a slim 3-0 lead after three innings then scored four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to seize control and a 10-0 lead.
Andrew got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth, ending a streak of 30 consecutive scoreless innings by Tallahassee pitchers.
In game two, Tallahassee had 21 hits and belted five homers - including back-to-back-to-back shots by Brianna Murillo, Brenda Santana and Alexis Huss - en route to the 21-6 win.
The Eagles put six runs on the board in their first at-bat, but Andrew answered with three in its half of the first and trailed only 7-6 after two complete innings and 8-6 heading to the seventh.
Tallahassee, however, exploded for 13 runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
The Eagles, winners of six in a row and eight of nine, are now 11-4, and will return home to host Florida State College at Jacksonville at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
