TCC Softball heads to Panhandle Conference play with No. 7 ranking

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 11, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team held on to a No.7 ranking in the Florida College System Activities Association's (FCSAA) Softball Coaches' Poll for the third straight week when the rankings were released on Tuesday.

The Eagles, currently 16-7, did not play last week due to three rainouts.

Tallahassee is one of three Panhandle Conference schools in the top ten. Chipola College is ranked No. 2 and Northwest Florida State College is fourth.

The other two conference rivals, Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College, received votes.

The Eagles enter Panhandle Conference play on Wednesday with a trip to Niceville, Fla., and a doubleheader against Northwest Florida State (23-7).

Both Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State traveled to Columbus, Ga., two weeks ago to participate in the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic.

Tallahassee advanced to the finals of the Silver Bracket, where it dropped an eight-inning decision to Central Alabama Community College.

Northwest Florida State, meanwhile, was the consolation winner of the Gold Bracket.

Wednesday's doubleheader opens an expanded 24-game conference schedule for the 2014 season with each PC school playing three doubleheaders against the other four members.

The top four finishers in the conference will advance to May's FCSAA Gulf District Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.

Tallahassee is scheduled to play its PC home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday against Pensacola State.
