TCC’s Brenda Santana named FCSAA Softball Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 18, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College third baseman Brenda Santana was named Softball Player of the Week by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) on Tuesday. 

Santana, a sophomore from Long Beach, Calif., batted .667 (10-for-15) with five runs scored, two home runs and six RBI in four games during the voting period, which began March 10 and ended March 16. 

Santana played a vital role in doubleheader sweeps of NJCAA No. 8 Northwest Florida State College and Pensacola State College, helping the Eagles' to their first 4-0 start in Panhandle Conference play since 2000. She hit safely and scored at least one run in each of the four games. 

At Northwest Florida State on March 12, she was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in game one and went 6-for-8 in the doubleheader. Three days later, she had two more two-hit games against Pensacola State and added a home run and two RBI in game two. 

Santana is the second Tallahassee player to receive FCSAA honors in 2014. On February 25, Mariah Rivera was named the organization's Pitcher of the Week. 

Santana will lead No. 3 Tallahassee back into action when it hosts No. 5 Chipola College for a Panhandle Conference doubleheader on Friday. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
