TCC Softball quartet named FCSAA All-State
PENSACOLA, Fla. (May 3, 2014) – Four members of Tallahassee Community College's softball team earned FCSAA All-State honors when the teams were announced Friday night during the annual pre-FCSAA Tournament banquet.
Pitcher Mariah Rivera and first baseman Alexis Huss were first-team all-state selections while outfielder Te Reo Powhiri Matautia and catcher Brianna Murillo earned second-team nods.
Rivera, a Tallahassee native who played at Lincoln High School, earned first-team honors as a result of being named Panhandle Conference Pitcher of the Year. The freshman right-hander has enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign, posting a 17-5 record and 1.59 ERA, along with two saves and struck out 127 batters in 149.1 innings – all tops on the Eagles' pitching staff. Her numbers were even better in league play, where she went 10-1 with a 1.33 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 78.2 innings in the circle.
Huss, a sophomore from Frankfort, Ill., has batted .366 with a team-high ten home runs, 42 RBI and .620 slugging percentage in 45 games. In league play, she batted .352 with four home runs and 17 RBI.
Matautia, a freshman from Mangere Bridge, Auckland, New Zealand, leads the Eagles with a .370 batting average and .424 on-base percentage and has scored a team-high 44 runs. She has also added three home runs and 32 RBI in 44 games. In league play, she batted .333 with one home run and 13 RBI.
Murillo, a sophomore from Chino Hills, Calif., has batted .343 with seven home runs and 29 RBI and a .543 slugging percentage in 42 games. In league play, she batted .359 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
