TCC’s Ashley Dobson inks with Florida Gulf Coast University
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 17, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College softball standout Ashley Dobson has signed a national letter of intent with Florida Gulf Coast University.
Head coach David Deiros announced Dobson's signing as part of a 14-member class, Florida Gulf Coast's largest class since the inaugural 2002-03 season. Dobson, a native of Wheatfield, Ind., is one of only two signees from outside the state of Florida.
"I'm very excited about moving on to the Division I level," said Dobson. "When I took my visit (to Florida Gulf Coast), I loved the coaches and feel like I will learn a lot from them."
Dobson enjoyed much success during her two seasons at Tallahassee.
In 2014, she went 19-7 with a 1.74 ERA, helping the Eagles claim their first FCSAA State Championship in 20 years and a berth in the NJCAA Division I Softball National Championship as the NJCAA Region 8B/FCSAA Gulf District Tournament champions. In the championship round of the Region 8B tournament, she picked up a complete-game victory in an elimination game against Polk State College then pitched into the fifth inning of the winner-take-all rematch, a game she and the Eagles won, 5-2.
Earlier in the tournament, she pitched a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over St. Petersburg College was named to the FCSAA and FCSAA Gulf District All-Tournament teams.
Dobson earned first-team All-Panhandle Conference honors this past season.
In two seasons at Tallahassee, she posted a 27-14 record and 1.99 ERA. In 278.1 innings in the circle, she struck out 207 batters.
Florida Gulf Coast, located in Ft. Myers, Fla., competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
