TCC Softball’s Alexis Huss receives NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 24, 2014) – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), on Tuesday, released its 2014 Academic Student-Athlete Awards, a list that included Tallahassee Community College's Alexis Huss

Huss, a member of the Eagles' softball team, received the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, given to student-athletes who attain a cumulative GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

"I'm extremely proud of Alexis," said director of athletics Rob Chaney. "She embodies what it means to be a student-athlete and is a tremendous ambassador for Tallahassee Community College.

"This award is also a testament to the quality instruction Alexis received while enrolled at TCC – from her classroom instructors, as well as her softball coaches."

To be eligible for NJCAA academic awards, student-athletes must have completed three full-time semesters and a minimum of 45 semester credit hours while participating in at least one season at the varsity level.

A native of Frankfort, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, Huss was previously named TCC's 2014 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned all-academic honors from both the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and Panhandle Conference (PC) in 2013 and 2014.

Huss graduated with honors from TCC in May.

On the field, she helped lead the Eagles to the 2014 NJCAA Division I Softball National Tournament. En route to the national tournament in St. George, Utah, Tallahassee captured its first Panhandle Conference championship since 1998 and its first FCSAA State Championship since 1994.

After batting .355 with 13 home runs and a school-record 53 RBI, Huss was named a third-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She was also named FCSAA First-team All-State, First-team All-Panhandle Conference and earned a spot on the FCSAA All-Tournament and FCSAA Gulf District All-Tournament teams.

Representing softball, Huss served a two-year term (2012-14) on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
