TCC’s Alexis Huss signs with Nicholls State (with audio)

Alexis Huss talks about signing with Nicholls State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 17, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College softball standout Alexis Huss has signed a national letter of intent with Nicholls State University.

Huss, a native of Frankfort, Ill., recently capped a stellar two-year career with the Eagles, one that ended, on the field, with an appearance in the NJCAA Division I Softball National Tournament.

Academically, Huss graduated with honors from TCC in May. Since then, she has been named all-academic by both the Panhandle Conference and Florida College System Activities Association and received the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement.

"I'm really proud of her and excited to see that all of the hard work she put in paid off," said Tallahassee head coach Patti Townsend. "Nicholls State is a great opportunity for her, and I know she's in good hands with Coach (Angel) Santiago."

Santiago is a former assistant coach at Florida State University.

This past season, Huss helped lead the Eagles to their first Panhandle Conference championship since 1998 and first FCSAA State Championship since 1994. She batted .355 with 13 home runs, a school-record 53 RBI and a .628 slugging percentage to earn first-team All-Panhandle Conference and first-team FCSAA All-State honors.

Huss came up especially big during the Eagles' run through the FCSAA Tournament.

She homered in the final three games of the FCSAA's Gulf District Tournament, including both games against Polk State College in the championship round. Her three-run blast in the bottom of the sixth erased a 2-1 deficit in game one – another three-run run shot broke open the decisive game two and propelled Tallahassee to a berth in the national tournament. All that helped her earn a spot on the FCSAA Tournament and FCSAA Gulf District All-Tournament teams.

Following the season, Huss was named first-team All-South Region and third-team All-America by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Huss, who was also named TCC Athletics' Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014, served a two-year term on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Nicholls State, an NCAA Division I program located in Thibodaux, La., completes in the Southland Conference.
