TCC Softball’s Matautia honored by SNZ

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 24, 2013) – Softball New Zealand (SNZ) recently handed out its 2013 awards and Tallahassee Community College’s Te Reo Powhiri Matautia was among the recipients.

Matautia, who hails from Mangere Bridge, Auckland, New Zealand, was named SNZ’s Women’s Player of the Year.

Matautia has performed exceptionally well at the international level while playing for SNZ’s White Sox squad. At the 2011 Junior World Championships, she was among the top five hitters in the tournament with a .538 batting average. Matautia delivered another outstanding performance at the 2012 Women’s World Softball Championships, finishing as one of the top 10 hitters in the tournament with a .500 batting average.

Matautia played in only four games as a freshman in 2013 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. She received a medical hardship from the NJCAA and has two seasons of eligibility remaining with Tallahassee.
