Softball: Eagles Win Big To Begin 2015 Season

CLEARWATER, Fla. (January 31, 2015) – The Tallahassee Community College softball team went 2-0 on the second day of the JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase with victories over Gordon (Ga.) State College and Richard Bland (Va.) College. 

The Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season. 

The second day of the tournament featured a doubleheader for the Eagles and they started off strong recording double-digit victories in both games. 

In the first game against Gordon State, the Eagles were dominant in all phases of the game.  The game was played over five innings and the Eagles scored 12 runs, with seven of them coming in the fourth.  The Eagles' defense was able to hold Gordon State to just two runs to secure the 12-2 victory. 

Alexandra Cook got the start for the Eagles and struck out six batters while only allowing three hits. 

Brooke Marendino, Taesha DuBoise, and Kayla Boucher were big contributors to the Eagles' success in the game. 

Marendino went 3-for-3 with two RBI, a double, and scored twice. 

Both DuBoise and Boucher went 2-for-3 and each scored once.  DuBoise also had two RBI. 

In the second and final game of the tournament, the Eagles continued their dominating play as they faced Richard Bland College.

Rivera pitched her 27th career complete game and recorded her sixth career shutout.  Over the five innings played she only allowed three hits and struck out three batters. 

The Eagles' bats remained hot as they dominated Richard Bland early, scoring seven runs in the third inning alone. 

Danielle Patterson, DuBoise and Boucher all recorded multiple hits and multiple RBI in the game.  

Both Patterson and DuBoise went 2-for-4.  Patterson drove in two runs while DuBoise drove in three more. 

Boucher went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. 

Over the weekend the Eagles scored a total of 34 runs while only giving up two. 

The Eagles' next game will be a doubleheader against Andrew (Ga.) College at home on February 4.  The first game will begin at 2 p.m. These will be the Eagles' first home games of the season.
