Eagles swept in doubleheader with Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. (March 27, 2015) – The Tallahassee Community College Eagles were swept on the road in a Panhandle Conference doubleheader with Chipola College on Friday night.

The Eagles are now 22-10 on the season and 2-4 in Panhandle Conference play.

In game one, the Eagles struggled offensively as Chipola won the game 6-0.

The Eagles kept the game close until the fifth inning when they surrendered four runs, as Chiploa put the game out of reach.

Danielle Patterson and Shelby Manns accounted for the Eagles' only two hits.

Gabrielle Decker got the start in the circle for the Eagles and went all six innings, striking out three batters.  With today's loss, Decker is now 5-5 on the season.

In game two, the Eagles got behind early as Chipola jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the second and third innings.

The Eagles answered back and cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the fourth inning.  After Kayla Boucher and Karley Yeager each singled to get on base, Kiara Johnson doubled down the left field line to bring Boucher around for the score.

In the seventh inning, the Eagles tied the game at 2-all with a single to center by Brianna Tourtillott to plate Danielle Patterson.

Tallahassee was unable to complete the comeback, however. Chipola loaded the bases in its final at-bat then, with two outs, a mishandled fly ball allowed the game's winning run to reach home.

Mariah Rivera pitched her tenth complete game of the season and is now 6-4.  Over seven innings she struck out three batters.

The Eagles will return to action when they host Northwest Florida State College in a doubleheader that is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
