Eagle Softball opens 2015 season with No. 9 national ranking

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 29, 2015) – Coming off an FCSAA State Championship and berth in the national tournament in 2014, Tallahassee Community College received a No. 9 ranking when the NJCAA released its preseason softball polls on Thursday.

Tallahassee, who finished the 2014 campaign with a record of 41-14, is one of three FCSAA schools in the poll, and all three are inside the top ten.

Reigning NJCAA Runners-up College of Central Florida, who Tallahassee defeated for the FCSAA title last May, opens the season at No. 2. Indian River State College is No. 5.

The three schools also lead the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll – Central Florida and Indian River State is tied for No. 1 while Tallahassee is No. 3.

Tallahassee will travel to Central Florida on March 3 for a doubleheader, one of four top 20 opponents on the Eagles’ 2015 slate. No. 4 Chattanooga (Tenn.) State Community College visits the TCC Softball Complex for a doubleheader on February 21, and Tallahassee will play single games against No. 14 Southern Union (Ala.) State Community College (February 27, Covington, Ga.) and No. 16 Walters (Tenn.) State Community College (February 14, Marianna, Fla.).

The Eagles will also play a home-and-home doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College, who received votes in the poll.

Tallahassee opens its season in Clearwater, Fla., for the annual JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase and will play St. Petersburg College at 4:20 p.m. Two more games will follow on Saturday – 9 a.m. vs. Gordon (Ga.) State College and 1:20 p.m. vs. Richard Bland (Va.) College.
