#TCCSoftball: Eagles split on Opening Day in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. (January 29, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team opened the 2016 season on Friday by splitting a pair of games at the JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase.

Tallahassee, ranked fifth in the Region 8 Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll, knocked off East Georgia State College, 4-1, in its season opener, then fell to Florida State College at Jacksonville, 9-1, in six innings.

In the win over East Georgia State, freshman pitcher Raya Moncus earned the win in her collegiate debut. She allowed only five hits and struck out three. The run she allowed was unearned.

The Eagles provided Moncus with all the support she needed with three runs in the second. Freshman Elisa Cecchetti provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run single. She finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Madisen Blair went 2-for-4 with a double and triple and drove in Tallahassee's other two runs. Casey Durham also went 2-for-3.

In game two, the Eagles managed only one run against the Blue Wave in the 9-1 loss.

Brooke Marendino went 3-for-3 to lead Tallahassee offensively.

Florida State College tagged Tallahassee starter Alexandra Cook with the loss. She allowed three runs and four hits over four innings of work.
