#TCCSoftball: Eagles bounce back to split with ABAC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 10, 2016) – Alexandra Cook pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout in Tallahassee Community College's 7-0, game two victory over Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College on Wednesday afternoon, allowing the Eagles (4-4) to earn a split of a doubleheader with the Fillies.

ABAC took advantage of 12 Tallahassee errors in the opener and won 13-8.

Behind the pitching of Cook, the Eagles bounced back from a rough opener. Cook took a no-hitter to the seventh inning but gave up consecutive singles to start the inning before settling for the two-hit shutout.

Tallahassee gave Cook all the run support she would need – and then some – with a six-run second inning.

The Eagles sent 10 batters to the plate, beginning with consecutive walks to Alyssa NeSmith and Casey Durham. Brooke Bates beat out a bunt to load the bases then Jaylene Pryor's sac-fly scored NeSmith with the first run of the game.

Alycia Smith followed with a single to score Durham and Brooke Marendino's RBI-ground out plated Bates for a 3-0 lead.

Consecutive doubles by Elisa Cecchetti and Madisen Blair accounted for the final three runs. Blair's hit scored Kristin Gunter and Cecchetti to give Tallahassee a commanding 6-0 lead.

Tallahassee scored its final run in the third.

The Eagles outhit the Fillies, 11-2, and all but one starter collected a hit.

NeSmith, Bates and Smith all went 2-for-3.

In the opener, Tallahassee led 5-3 but a two-out error in the third extended the inning and ABAC took advantage, scoring four runs to seize control.

The Fillies added four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to claim the 13-8 win.

Marendino, Blair and Smith had two hits each. Durham hit a two-run homer during the Eagles' four-run first inning.

Bates started in the circle and took the loss for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will return to play on Saturday at the Florida Public Utilities Classic, hosted by Chipola College. Tallahassee will play Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College at noon eastern and Central Alabama Community College at 4:30 p.m. eastern.
