#TCCSoftball beats Hillsborough, falls to CF at FPU Classic

MARIANNA, Fla. (February 14, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team split a doubleheader for the second straight day at the Florida Public Utilities Classic, hosted by Chipola College.

The Eagles beat Hillsborough Community College, 2-0, in their first game of the day then fell to the College of Central Florida, 11-8.

In the opener, sophomore Alexandra Cook came out on the winning end of a pitchers' duel in the 2-0 victory. She allowed only two hits, walked none and struck out five.

Tallahassee gave Cook all the run support she would need in its first at-bat when Madisen Blair singled home Brooke Marendino

The Eagles plated their only other run an inning later on Alycia Smith's RBI-single.

Blair finished 2-for-3 and Smith, 1-for-3.

Against Central Florida, Raya Moncus took the loss in the circle.

The Patriots struck for one run in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth, and led 11-4 moving to the seventh.

Tallahassee made things interesting, however, plating four runs in its final at-bat, capitalizing on five Central Florida errors.

Casey Durham was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Marendino, 2-for-4. Kristin Gunter drove in two runs, including one on a sac-fly. Blair was 1-for-4 with two runs driven in.

Tallahassee (6-6) will continue play on Tuesday when it travels to Santa Fe College for a doubleheader with the Saints beginning at 2 p.m.
