#TCCSoftball falls twice to Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 9, 2016) – A postseason berth will have to wait for Tallahassee Community College's softball team, following a pair of late-inning losses at Pensacola State College on Saturday.

The Pirates rallied twice to knock of the Eagles 5-3 and 9-7, the latter coming in eight innings.

Tallahassee (21-19, 5-9 PC) could've clinched a berth in the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament with a sweep. Instead, the Eagles fell into a virtual tie for fourth-place with the Pirates (18-22, 4-8). Both teams are one game back of third-place Gulf Coast State College (5-7).

After closing its regular season on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Gulf Coast State, Tallahassee will have to sit back and watch its fate be determined by what happens on Thursday's final day of conference play.

In the opener, Tallahassee led 3-1 but watched the Pirates score the game's final four runs.

Pensacola State scored one run in the fourth then plated three in the decisive fifth inning against Tallahassee starter and losing pitcher Alexandra Cook (12-9).

Elisa Cecchetti had two hits for the Eagles.

Game two followed a similar script as Pensacola State rallied in the final two innings to force extras, and Emily Corbitt's walk-off homer in the eighth won it, 9-7.

Before watching the Pirates play catch up, Tallahassee rallied from deficits of 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3, eventually carrying a 7-4 lead to the bottom of the sixth.

Pensacola State scored three runs in the sixth to tie the game at 7-all, and a scoreless seventh extended the game.

Raya Moncus (8-9) took the loss for Tallahassee.

Kristin Gunter had three hits and Brooke Marendino, two, to pace the Eagles' 11-hit attack.
