TCC, former Lincoln High standout Danielle Ekberg signs with Webber

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 7, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College softball standout Danielle Ekberg has signed a national letter of intent with Webber International University.

Ekberg, who hails from Tallahassee, prepped at Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School before heading north to Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., for her freshman season where she appeared in 29 games in 2014 for the Lions.

Following the 2014 campaign, Ekberg transferred back to Tallahassee, where she joined the Eagles and immediately found herself at the top of the depth chart behind the plate. She played in 37 games in 2015, scored 12 runs and drove in six.

According to Ekberg, she was close to walking away from the game for good following the 2015 season at Tallahassee.

“(Head) Coach Patti (Townsend) helped me see that I couldn’t just quit after the end of the season and that I would regret giving up playing this amazing sport,” said Ekberg. “If it wasn’t for TCC and Coach Patti, I would have hung up my cleats and missed out on the opportunity to give the sport two more amazing years.”

Ekberg’s credentials include a strong performance in the classroom. She received the NJCAA’s highest academic honor – the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence – after graduating from TCC with a 4.0 GPA in May. She was also named All-Academic by both the FCSAA and Panhandle Conference.

Webber, located in Babson Park, Fla., competes in The Sun Conference as a member of the NAIA.
