#TCCSoftball: Chipola sweeps Eagles in PC opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – Chipola College swept a doubleheader from Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday in the Panhandle Conference softball opener for both teams.

Chipola won by the scores of 15-1 and 8-0.

The Indians took advantage of six Tallahassee errors in game one, including three in the first inning when helped them jump out to a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles got one of the runs back in their at-bat when Alyssa NeSmith singled home Kristin Gunter, but that was all the offense they could muster.

Chipola tacked on six more runs in the second to up its lead to 11-1.

Tallahassee had eight hits in game one, two each by Alycia Smith, Gunter and Elisa Cecchetti

Raya Moncus (8-3) took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee.

In game two, Chipola's Morgan Goree tossed a six-inning no-hitter in the 8-0 win.

Chipola gave Goree all the run support she needed with three runs in the second.

Goree carried a perfect game into the fourth when she hit Gunter with a pitch with one out but pitched around any potential. The Eagles threatened again in the fifth following an error and a walk to Brooke Bates, but couldn't come up with the big hit.

Chipola iced the game in the sixth, scoring three more times to increase its lead to 8-0.

After pitching just one inning in game one, Moncus (8-4) returned in the nightcap and went the distance, allowing eight runs on nine hits.

Tallahassee (14-10, 0-2 PC) will travel to Pensacola State College on Thursday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
