#TCCSoftball drops pair at Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (April 6, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College dropped both games of Thursday's Panhandle Conference softball doubleheader at Gulf Coast State College, falling by the scores of 6-4 and 3-2.

As a result, Tallahassee (20-20, 4-12 PC) fell back into a virtual tie with Pensacola State College (3-11) for fourth place in the league standings. Pensacola State will host Northwest Florida State College on Friday.

Thursday's games were a stark contrast to the pair Tallahassee and Gulf Coast State played on March 22 when the teams combined for 54 runs and 65 hits in the doubleheader.

The Commodores spotted Tallahassee a third-inning run in the opener before scoring six unanswered en route to the 6-4 win.

Gulf Coast State scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, added three more in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth. It almost wasn't enough.

The Eagles made things interesting, scoring three in the seventh, ultimately coming up short in their comeback bid.

In game two, it was the host Commodores who got on the board first, scoring a fourth-inning run to charge in front.

Tallahassee answered with two runs in the fifth to gain the lead and carried a 2-1 advantage to the bottom of the sixth, but Gulf Coast State scored a pair of runs that proved to be the difference.

Tallahassee will close its 2017 home schedule on Saturday when it hosts the second Panhandle Conference Round Robin. Five games, featuring all five PC teams, will be played at the TCC Softball Complex beginning at 11 a.m.

The Eagles will play the final two games of the day – 6:30 p.m. vs. Pensacola State and 9 p.m. vs. Northwest Florida State.
