#TCCSoftball drops three in Georgia

COLUMBUS, Ga. (March 9, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's softball team wrapped up play in the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Saturday with three games. 

The Eagles (13-16) came up short in each game, falling to Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College, 10-2, to complete pool play. In bracket play, Tallahassee lost to Rock Valley (Ill.) College, 6-4, and San Jacinto (Texas) College, 12-5. 

Against Des Moines Area, Tallahassee scored a run in its first at-bat but yielded the next seven runs. The Eagles scored their final run in the top of the fifth but gave up three in the bottom half to end the game. 

Seven different players collected hits for Tallahassee. Ismay Poot had the only extra-base hit, a double. 

Sammie Massaro (4-5) took the loss in the circle. 

Against Rock Valley, Tallahassee trailed 6-0 through five innings before getting on the board with a run in the sixth. The Eagles added three more in the seventh but the game ended with the tying runs in scoring position. 

Sidney Mathis (6-6) pitched a complete game in defeat for Tallahassee. 

Six different players had hits for the Eagles, including doubles by Katelyn Hobbs and Monica Marquez. Hobbs drove in two runs. 

In the final game of the day, San Jac picked up the 12-5 win. 

Tallahassee led 4-2 through three innings but San Jac scored five in the fourth and five more in the sixth to pull away. 

Poot went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. 

Fowler (2-4) took the loss for Tallahassee. 

The Eagles will return to action when they host Gulf Coast State College at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Panhandle Conference opener.
