TCC women soar into NJCAA poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 15, 2012) – Off to a 4-0 start, the Tallahassee Community College Lady Eagles were rewarded on Wednesday, with a No. 12 ranking in the NJCAA's first regular season poll of the 2012-13 season.

Tallahassee is one of four Panhandle Conference teams in the Top 25. Gulf Coast State College is ranked No. 1 while Northwest Florida State College is No. 6. Chipola College trails the Lady Eagles at No. 17.

In the same order, those same four teams also hold down the top four spots in this week's FCSAA Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll – and all four received consideration as the top team in Florida.

Gulf Coast received eight of the 18 first-place votes while Northwest Florida State picked up five. Tallahassee and Chipola each received two, and No. 9 St. Petersburg College received the final first-place vote.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is ranked No. 5 in this week's FCSAA Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll followed by the fifth PC school, Pensacola State College.

Santa Fe College, Daytona State College, St. Petersburg and Indian River State College round out this week's top ten.

On the men's side, Tallahassee slipped four spots to No. 9 in the FCSAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll. Like the women's poll, the men's rankings include all five PC schools – No. 1 Northwest Florida State, No. 2 Chipola, No. 6 Gulf Coast State and No. 8 Pensacola State.

Palm Beach State College and College of Central Florida are ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively while St. Petersburg, Tallahassee's next opponent, is No. 7.

State College of Florida is ranked No. 10.
