GAINESVILLE, Fla. (November 30, 2012) - Aiyannah Peal scored a game-high 13 points and Alexis Grant added 11 to lead FCSAA No. 5 Tallahassee Community College (7-2) past Brevard Community College, 65-50, on Friday afternoon at the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout.
Peal scored all of her points from the free throw line, hitting 13-of-17 overall. She and Grant had seven rebounds each. Aariel Allen, playing in her hometown of Gainesville, Fla., added nine points and 10 rebounds.
The first half was a defensive slugfest, as neither team shot better than 33 percent. In fact, Tallahassee only hit 25.7 percent (9-of-35) from the floor, but outscored Brevard 9-0 from the free throw line and led 28-20 at the intermission.
The struggles from the floor continued in the second half, as Tallahassee hit only 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) field goal attempts and finished 18-of-59 for the game. But the Lady Eagles hit 18-of-28 from the charity stripe, where they enjoyed a 27-8 advantage in points on the evening, to pull away from the Titans.
Tallahassee also enjoyed a 59-35 advantage on the boards.
