TCC’s Karley Barnes preparing for NJCAA All-Star Weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 24, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College rising sophomore Karley Barnes is one of 40 players participating in the NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 2013 All-Star Weekend, set for July 25-28 on the campus of Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Fla. 

More than 100 NJCAA women's basketball players were nominated for the event, and a committee of coaches from across the organization (Division I, II and III) surveyed the nominees and selected the participants. 

Barnes is one of 12 players from the Panhandle Conference slated for the event, and Region 8 (Florida) has 15 total participants. Other participants are coming from as far away as Roxbury Community College, located in Boston, Mass., the Community College of Rhode Island, the College of Southern Idaho and South Mountain (Ariz.) Community College. 

A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Barnes started 13 games as a freshman and played in 25 overall during the 2012-13 season. She averaged 6.3 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the floor. 

She recorded double-doubles in three of her first four collegiate games including a 12-point, 19-rebound effort against St. Petersburg College on November 10. 

Upon arriving in Niceville on Thursday evening, Barnes and her All-Star teammates will be assigned to one of four teams. 

Friday's schedule will consist of position workouts and team practices followed by the NJCAA Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Banquet. 

All-Star Weekend swings into high gear on Saturday with games featuring the four teams at 2 and 4 p.m. eastern. A second set of games is scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Barnes is the first Tallahassee player selected to the NJCAA All-Star Team.
