Southern Challenge Jamboree returns October 19

2013 Southern Challenge Jamboree Schedule

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 8, 2013) – Eighteen of the top NJCAA women's basketball teams in the Southeast will be in action at Tallahassee Community College on Saturday, October 19 when the 2013 Southern Challenge Jamboree tips off at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome and Lifetime Sports Complex.

The annual jamboree will mark the preseason home debut for Tallahassee's first-year head coach Franqua "Q" Bedell, who was hired in June. Bedell and the Eagles are working towards their 2013-14 season opener on Friday, November 1 against Hillsborough Community College.

The Southern Challenge Jamboree will feature 13 teams from Florida and five from Georgia, all of whom will play in front of coaches representing a who's who of four-year schools nationwide. Each of the 18 teams will play three games, which consists of two 20-minutes halves with a running clock.

Three games will be played simultaneously, starting on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m. when Tallahassee faces Miami Dade College. Other 10 a.m. games include Georgia Highlands College vs. College of Central Florida and Eastern Florida State College (formerly Brevard Community College) vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Tallahassee's final two games will be played at 2 p.m. vs. Georgia Perimeter College and at 6 p.m. vs. Albany (Ga.) Technical College.

All three of Tallahassee's games will be played on the floor of the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

The jamboree field includes a quartet of teams who advanced to last season's NJCAA Tournament – reigning NJCAA Region 8 & Panhandle Conference Champion Gulf Coast State College, fellow PC rivals Chipola College and Northwest Florida State College, and reigning NJCAA Region 17 Champion Darton (Ga.) State College.

Northwest Florida State and Darton State will match up in the 11 a.m. round of games.

Other teams participating in the 2013 Southern Challenge Jamboree include: Central Georgia Technical College, Daytona State College, Hillsborough Community College, Pensacola State College, Santa Fe College and St. Petersburg College.

General admission is $10.
