Southern Challenge Jamboree returns on Saturday

Tallahassee was victorious in all three games at the Southern Challenge Jamboree, defeating Shelton State (Ala.) Community College, East Mississippi Community College and Hillsborough Community College. 

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 10, 2014) – Twenty-four teams, including four participants from the 2014 NJCAA Tournament, will be in action at Tallahassee Community College on Saturday when the Southern Challenge Jamboree tips off at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome and Lifetime Sports Complex.  

The jamboree field is headlined by the reigning champs from Region 8 (Chipola College), Region 17 (South Georgia Technical College) and Region 22 (Shelton State Community College), as well as Region 8 and fellow Panhandle Conference foe Northwest Florida State College. All four teams advanced to last season's national tournament in Salina, Kan.

Northwest Florida State, in particular, will be playing with an extremely heavy heart after head coach Patrick Harrington passed away on Thursday, one week after sustaining injuries in a serious car accident. The Raiders will take the floor against Central Georgia Technical College in the opening round of games at 9 a.m. 

Other 9 a.m. games include Ft. Benning Military vs. Indian River State College and Palm Beach State College vs. Albany (Ga.) Techical College. 

Tallahassee plays its first game of the day in the 10 a.m. round against Shelton State. The Eagles will also face East Mississippi Community College at noon and Hillsborough Community College in the final round of games, which tips off at 8 p.m.

All three of Tallahassee's games will be played on the floor of the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.  

Throughout the day, three games will be played simultaneously, starting on the hour, beginning at 9 a.m.

Other teams participating in the Southern Challenge Jamboree include: College of Central Florida, Darton (Ga.) State College, Daytona State College, Eastern Florida State College, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Georgia Highlands College, Georgia Perimeter College, Gulf Coast State College, Miami Dade College, Pensacola State College, Santa Fe College and St. Petersburg College. 

General admission is $10.
