Eagles Look to Remain Undefeated

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 17, 2014) – The TCC Eagles men's and women's basketball teams will play a double header on Tuesday evening in the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.  The first game tips-off at 6:00 pm. 

In the first game of the night the Eagles women's basketball team is coming off of a successful weekend in the Applebee's Classic where they beat Chatahoochie Valley (Ala.) Community College and Andrews (Ga.) College. 

The Eagles will take on Santa Fe College (4-2) in their only meeting this season.  Last season when these two teams met the Eagles came away with a double-digit victory.  TCC holds a series lead 16-8 over the Saints with their last home loss coming in the 2009 season. 

The Saints are led by the scoring duo of Sonya Franklin and Kayla Lovett.  Lovett, a sophomore, is second in points per game with 10.2 points on 38 percent shooting.  Franklin has played in all six games this season for the Saints and leads the team in scoring while coming off the bench.  She is currently shooting 43 percent and averaging 12.3 points per game.  Defensively the Saints are led by Latisha Speights who averages 6.5 rebounds a game.

In the last game of the night the Eagles men will take on Gordon State College (3-3) in the second and final meeting of the season.   The Eagles enter the game ranked #1 in the FCSAA Coaches Poll.  The last time these two teams met back on November 6 the Eagles pulled out an 86-82 overtime victory.  Since then the Eagles have gone on a four game winning streak to improve their record to 6-0 while the Highlanders have gone 2-1 over that same period. 

Jamarcus Larry, who averages 18.5 points per game, this season, leads the Highlanders on offense.  Larry has been a role player for the Highlanders coming off the bench in all six games this season.  Three other players average double digits in scoring for the Highlanders with Aquavious Young, Michael Stephenson, and James Walker all playing contributing roles on offense.  George Brown leads the team defensively with 5.2 steals and 5.5 rebounds per game.  The Highlanders leading rebounder is James Walker who has pulled down 8.2 rebounds a game.

Both the men and women Eagles will look to keep their undefeated seasons alive on Tuesday.  The women's game tips off at 6pm while the men will tip off at 8pm.  Admission is $5 with faculty/staff and students getting in free with a valid ID.
