Eagle women win 20th game with victory over Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 11, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team won its 20th game on Wednesday evening and, more importantly, got a step closer to the postseason, defeating Pensacola State College, 56-50, in Panhandle Conference basketball action.

The win, coupled with Chipola College's 61-51 victory over Gulf Coast State College, brought the Eagles back to .500 (5-5) in league play and a 1.5 game lead over the Commodores (3-6) for the PC's third and final postseason berth. Tallahassee is now 20-8 overall.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first half thanks to solid execution on both ends of the floor.  Defensively, they were able to hold the Pirates without a bucket for over five minutes to begin the game. That translated into an 11-1 run to start the game.

Tallahassee eventually entered halftime with a 37-22 lead behind an 18-10 advantage in the paint.

The second half was the exact opposite as the Eagles came out of the locker room cold while Pensacola State went on a 9-0 run to cut Tallahassee's lead to single digits.

With 5:57 left in the game, the Pirates took a 46-45 lead and from there, the game went back and forth until the Eagles took their final lead of the game on a basket from Paris Johnson Jones with 3:43 remaining.

Cat Wells led Tallahassee with 13 points while Karley Barnes led the team on the glass with five rebounds.

The Eagles will play their final home game against Gulf Coast State on Saturday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m. needing a win to secure a berth in the FCSAA State Tournament.

Saturday will also be Sophomore Night and admission for the game is free.
