Eagles Lose to Chipola; Await Postseason Fate

By Karl Hunt, TCC Sports Information

MARIANNA, Fla. (February 17, 2015) – In their final game of the regular season the Tallahassee Community College women suffered a 77-42 loss at Chipola College.

The Eagles fell to 20-10 for the season and 5-7 in Panhandle Conference play.

Playing without six players the short handed Eagles struggled to find any rhythm during the game.

Chipola went on a 19-2 run to end the first half and took a 44-15 lead into the break.  The run began with 6:14 left in the half and the Eagles' only points came at the 2:47 mark.

The Eagles' struggles continued in the second half and they could not find a way to contain Chipola's Evelyn Akhator.

Four of Tallahassee's key players were unable to play in tonight's game.  The Eagles were without their leading scorer, Cat Wells, and their leading rebounder, Karley Barnes.  The Eagles were also missing Wendion Bibbins and Aiyannah Peal.  All players were injured for tonight's contest.

With Wells, Barnes, Bibbins, and Peal out, the Eagles were missing the majority of their offensive firepower.  Between the four, they average 31.7 points per game.

Jeremica Edwards scored 20 points to lead Tallahassee and was the only Eagle in double-figures.

With tonight's loss the Eagles' postseason hopes rest on the outcome of Gulf Coast State College's final two games.  The Commodores play Northwest Florida State College at home on Wednesday and then travel to Pensacola State College on Saturday.

The Eagles will earn a postseason berth if the Commodores lose both games.  If Gulf Coast State wins both, the Commodores will advance to the postseason. If Gulf Coast State splits the two games, the Eagles and Commodores will be tied for the third and final bid for the tournament.

In the event of a tie, the Eagles and Commodores will face off one final time next Tuesday at 7:30 pm in Marianna to determine who will continue on into the post season.
