Eagles rout Atlanta Metro State in Capital Courtyard Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 20, 2015) - NJCAA Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College outscored Atlanta Metro State College 28-9 in the second quarter en route to a 90-54 win over the Trailblazers on day two of the Capital Courtyard Classic.

The Eagles have won two straight to improve to 5-3 and will go for a sweep of their three games in the Classic at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Darton (Ga.) State College.

Tallahassee led by a point, 18-17, after a quarter but began to turn things on in the second quarter.

A 20-2 run blew the game wide open as the Eagles took a 46-26 lead to the locker room.

A record-breaking three-point barrage continued in the second half as Tallahassee hit 6-of-11 from long distance on its way to a school-record 13 three-pointers. Janessa Murphy banked in a runner from long distance at the third quarter buzzer to push the Eagles' lead to 68-41. Tallahassee outscored Atlanta Metro State, 22-13, in the fourth.

Murphy sank four three-pointers on her way to an 18-point, five-assist, five-steal night. Monique Calliste matched Murphy with four triples and finished with 23 points.

Sabrina Banks took game-high honors with 26 points and nine rebounds. Destinee McQueen added 11 points.

In other action on day two of the Capital Courtyard Classic, TPLS Christian Academy defeated The Rock School in overtime, Forest Trail Academy defeated IMG Academy and Darton State defeated Hillsborough Community College. 

The Classic concludes with four games on Saturday beginning at noon. In addition to Tallahassee-Darton State, Lincoln High School faces The Rock at 4:30 p.m.
