Eagles win fifth straight, go 2-0 in Texas

ATHENS, Texas (November 28, 2015) – NJCAA Region 8 No. 7 Tallahassee Community College ran its winning streak to five with a 73-64 win over San Jacinto (Texas) College-North on Saturday morning at the Budke/Serna Classic hosted by Trinity Valley Community College. 

On its trip to the Lone Star State, Tallahassee went 2-0, including a win on Friday against Panola (Texas) College, to improve to 8-3. San Jac dropped both of its games in the event and is now 6-3 on the season. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held the advantage for most of the afternoon. San Jac used an 11-3 run to grab a three-point lead (11-8) at the three-minute mark of the first quarter but the period ended with Tallahassee in front 13-12. 

The Eagles broke a 16-all tie with a 9-0 run to surge ahead, 25-16, with 6:00 left in the second quarter and carried a 41-31 lead to the locker room. 

The Lady Gators pulled within four (41-37) early in the third quarter but Tallahassee extended the lead back to 55-47 as the game moved to the fourth. 

San Jac closed to within 63-59 with 2:07 left in the game, but the Eagles got the job at the free throw line and doubled up the Lady Gators, 10-5, the rest of the way. 

Tallahassee will resume play at Hillsborough Community College on Thursday evening.
