Eagle women move into third place in PC with upset win over NWF State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 2, 2016) – NJCAA Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College defeated Region 8 No. 4/NJCAA No. No. 16 Northwest Florida State College, 69-63, on Tuesday evening in women's college basketball action.

Tallahassee (14-11, 3-5 Panhandle Conference) took over sole possession of third place in the PC standings with the win. The Eagles have a one-game lead over Northwest Florida State (16-8, 2-6) with four games remaining, and all signs point towards the teams' February 20 meeting in Niceville in the regular season finale having significant postseason implications.

Trailing 19-13 after the first quarter, Tallahassee outscored the Raiders 29-11 in the second quarter. With the game tied at 27, the Eagles went on a 15-3 run to take control of the game.

Tallahassee led 42-30 at the break and fended off several runs by Northwest Florida State in the second half.

The Eagles never trailed again but did see their lead cut to as few as three points in the final minute of the game. Leading 66-63, Janessa Murphy hit one of two from the line to extend Tallahassee's lead to four. After a defensive stop, Murphy knocked down another free throw and Lawriell Wilson added one of her own with three seconds remaining to finish the scoring.

Sabrina Banks led Tallahassee with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Eboni Watts added 16 and Wilson scored 11.

Tallahassee will host Pensacola State College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
