TCC’s Bedell selected to participate in WBCA leadership program

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 10, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College head women’s basketball coach Franqua “Q” Bedell has been selected as a participant in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) Center for Coaching Excellent (CCE).

According to the WBCA web site, CCE is a two-day elite leadership-training program that provides an unparalleled, exclusive learning experience for coaches of women’s and girls’ basketball. Coaches attending CCE learn through collaborative and interactive learning sessions facilitated by program creators and facilitators Dr. M. Dianne Murphy, athletic director at Columbia University and former head women’s basketball coach at Florida State University (1976-79), and Dr. Cathie T. Siders, clinical psychologist and organizational consultant.

The program takes place August 11 and 12 in Atlanta, Ga.

“I’m excited to participate,” said Bedell. “It’s always an honor to be recognized amongst your peers in the coaching fraternity and this group of individuals (attending CCE) is a really good class.

“I’m even more excited about the professional development aspect,” added Bedell. “It’s an opportunity to improve my areas of weakness – (coaches) are always trying to get better at what we’re doing. If you’re a better leader, you’ll always have a better product, and I’m excited to see how I can bring it back and build up our program.”

Bedell is set to embark on his third season at the helm of the Eagles’ program. Through two seasons, he has compiled a 32-28 record, including a 20-win campaign in 2014-15. Combined with his one-year as the head coach at Southeastern Illinois College (2007-08), in which he went 33-4, Bedell’s overall NJCAA coaching record stands at 65-32.
